Well, 2008 was another great year of gaming for my group and I. Despite all of the consternation regarding 4e drowning out the market, my Go-To RPG companies came through yet again. So while they are belated thanks, I’d like to thank the following companies for their 2008 efforts and wish them a prosperous and successful 2009. Green Ronin: In addition to great Freeport products, the announcement of the 3rd Era line was the Christmas present I always wanted but didn’t know it. While I’ve been picking up as much 3.x stuff as I could, I wasn’t able to round them all up. This news was fantastic! I also anxiously await the Song of Ice and Fire RPG and hope to check out True20 in 2009. Paizo Publishing: Where do I even start with these guys? From the gold-standard of adventures with the Pathfinder APs and Modules, to the myriad Golarion goodness, to the promise of the Pathfinder RPG, these guys kicked mucho derriere. Thanks for making the Beta PDFs free, thanks for teaching this old dog new tricks with adventure and story design, and thanks for keeping 3.x alive, even if in a newly-evolved form! Mongoose: Thanks for another great year of Conan-gaming goodness. After a few months of anxious waiting, the new round of Conan sourcebooks continues to please. If only my wallet can keep up! While I would have loved to see something similar to GR’s 3rd Era to keep the 3.x stuff in print, major props for making some of your 3.x material available on the Grand OGL Wiki. I’d also be remiss if I didn’t thank the authors of my favorite story hours: Lazybones (Doomed Bastards) Talien (Arcanis/Freeport) El-remmen (Aquerra-Out of the Frying Pan) While there are many I’ve begun to sample, these three are always bringing me back, even though I was playing catch-up. You guys weave great stories, a testament to your writing skills, your DM skills, your players’ or all of the above. In any case, thanks for the time and effort spent sharing those stories with us. Here’s to good gaming in 2009!
