I'm happy with the 5e multiclassing and saw no need to think about a MT, but someone put up a 20 level class of one on DMs Guild it it had me thinking how to do one as a PrC. The concept would be really simple: Prerequisite is to have access to at least two spell lists with different casting abilities. [ Discussion: This disallows a Paladin / Bard or Paladin / Sorcerer, but pure Chr casting would be quite strong. ] HD: d6 Grants full casting but has no spell list of it's own. 1st: Advanced Study, Focus Consolidation 2nd: Advanced Study, Extra Cantrip 3rd: Advanced Study 4th: Ability score improvement, Extra Cantrip 5th: Advanced Study, Extra Cantrip, Ritual Study [ Discussion: Needed a reason to go to 5th so I made it nicer. ] Advanced study: Gain one spell known from any spell list you already have access to from another class. It must be of a level you can cast, and it can not be more than 1 level above your highest known spell in that spell list. For example, if you can cast 5th level spells and known 3rd level wizard and 2nd level cleric spells, you may pick a 1-4th level wizard spells or a 1-3th level cleric spell. Each time you gain this feature again you may also change one spell picked via this. [ Discussion: Didn't want to at high levels be able to take one level of something else and then a level of this to poach high level spells. It still will grant spell levels fast, especially for partial casters. ] Focus Consolidation: Any spellcasting focus you can use works for all of your classes. [ Discussion: Just making things easier mechanically so they aren't always playing a held object swap game. ] Extra Cantrip: You gain a cantrip from any spell list you have access to via a class. Ritual Study: If you do not have Ritual Casting, you gain it. If you already had ritual casting, time to cast is reduce by a factor of ten. [ Discussion: Sounds like a big deal, but 1 minute for detect magic and the like instead of 10 minute ones is mostly a ribbon feature and will only come up a couple times a campaign. ] So, this is entirely off the top of my head. How can we improve it? How can it be abused?
