Mystic Theurge with Druids?

It works but not very well. You give up all the good parts of the druid (companion, wild shaping) and are left with just the spellcasting.. which is very inferior to a cleric's.

Opinions vary. I've myself done a Druid/Wizard (Spec: Conjuration) theurge that I found to be quite satisfying. Particularly when supplement material gets involved, a druid's spellcasting is still quite respectable.

That is a matter of opinion. I think druid spells are great and have long thought that a drd/sorc would make for a great theurge.

I think the Arcane Hierophant from Races of the Wild might be more what you're looking for, because you keep advancing your wild-shape ability. You also get the ability to ignore arcane spell-failure due to wearing light or medium non-metallic armor.
Plus "companion familiar" and channeling.
That's a lot better I'd say...

Have a look at the Arcane Hierophant from Races of the Wild. It gives +1 arcane/+1 divine spellcasting progression like the Mystic Theurge, allows arcane spellcasting in non-metallic light and medium armor, advances the wild shape ability, and grants a familiar companion that has the abilities of both a familiar and an animal companion (and advances in both).

Taking levels in both Mystic Theurge and Arcane Hierophant might be an interesting idea. A Druid 3/Wizard 3/Mystic Theurge 4/Arcane Hierophant 10 has the spellcasting ability of a 17th-level druid and a 17th-level wizard, can wild shape as a 13th-level druid, and has a familiar companion that combines the abilities of an animal companion of a 13th-level druid and the familiar of a 13th-level wizard.

With the Natural Bond feat, that's the animal companion abilities of a Drd16, too.

Practised Spellcaster from Complete Arcane and Complete Divine is another good feat, taken twice to increase the caster level of both druid and wizard spells.

Add to that the other "must have" druid feats of Natural Spell, Augment Summoning and the pre-requisite Spell Focus (conjuration), and that leaves a non-human character with just one other feat choice. You can't have it all, I guess :p.
