The spell seems a bit weak for a 9th level spell to me. Here are some of my thoughts on improving the spell. I think you should make the spell an emanation. I also think you should allow it to protect vampires or other highly sun sensitive creatures. I think it should dispel and suppress all light and darkness spells and effect of less than 9th level. It would also be nice if it suppressed natural light sources with in its area of effect. Alternately I think you could reduce the spell’s level to 7th or 8th level depending on whether or not it trumps normal light sources and spells with in its area. Here is a rewrite of the spell incorporating my suggestions. I don't know if this is still what you had in mind from the spell. Naerl’s Solar Trickery Evocation [Light, darkness] Level: Wiz/Sor 9, Trickery 9 Components: V, S, M Casting time: 1 standard action Area: 1 mile radius emanation centered on caster Duration: 1 hour/level (D) Saving throw: None Spell resistance: No The caster may set any illumination level from full daylight to pitch black at the time of casting. This level of illumination replaces the normal level of illumination for the duration of the spell. This spell dispels and suppresses all light and darkness spells and effects of less than 9th level with in its area. It also suppresses natural light sources such as torches, fires, or even sunlight with in its area. If the illumination level is set to full daylight then the spell affects creatures as if it was actual sunlight. Material: A dragons tooth weighing at least 1 pound
