Nautilus | Official Trailer

the Company' (via prison labour) using iirc a french design
Which undermines it’s claim to be a prequel to the novel, since it’s a plot point than no one, including the British, knows what the Nautilus is, the professor being convinced it a cryptid (and the navy somewhat willing to listen to him).

But my biggest issue is that Jules Verne did not write steampunk. His writings were firmly grounded in hard science to the extent that he understood it.

The British East India Company was evil enough in reality. They don’t need a massive steampunk dreadnaught to prove it.

Yeah, I didnt like that part either, it did diminish Nemos role as genius science hero

In the show Nemo is credited with designing the engines, but its built by 'the Company' (via prison labour) using iirc a french design.
It's been decades but, if I remember correctly, in the books he was the son of an Indian prince and both designed and financed The Nautilus himself, by having a multitude of manufacturers, around the world, separately manufacture the necessary parts.
