Penrose has never spoken of ghosts. If they exist he hasn't considered them worth mentioning. Law joins the others in the sanctuary and adds his light to Chance and Harper's. There's no sign of any disturbance and the rafters are still and silent. Crow watches curiously from its perch on the corner of a nearby pew, apparently unworried. For a moment everything is quiet except for the growing hum of rain against the roof of the church. The group can feel (and with the exception of Chance, see) Law's spell activate. The others don't notice anything different once the spell has been cast, but Law is immediately overcome by the feeling that something is right on top of him - it's similar to noticing someone behind you, uncomfortably close, when you'd thought you were alone. His attention is pulled to the far end of the room by the squealing of a strained rope and the creaking of wood - a sound he alone hears. In the darkness above the toppled lectern, at the very edge of sight, is the slowly rotating outline of a man's body suspended from a crossbeam by a length of rope. Law quickly directs the beam of his flashlight at the body - invisible to everyone but him. The man is naked but for a pair of briefs. He's slightly overweight and very pink, hairless everywhere but his head. The skin at his neck is raw from the rope and the desperate clawing of his last moments, and he stares back at Law with open eyes. This ghost isn't shining or translucent: To Law it is as solid as everything else in the church, but he knows with certainty what it is.
