Game Announcement - Stargate RPG – Offworld Mission One I am planning a game for beginning characters using the Stargate rules published by AEG. They are d20 based and similar in many ways to those of Spycraft. Characters All characters will be working for the SGC either as military personnel, civilian specialists, offworld guides, and etcetera as part of a cohesive team. The team will have already been through some training together and all know basic SG1 policies, procedures and tactics. Character generation will be done at the game table, or through online discussion and email. I will allow much greater leeway and leverage to characters and concepts generated in advance, as that also allows me to prepare better for those characters and the ramifications of their backgrounds, abilities and ect. Also I will keep characters generated at the table simple because I would like to spend the time running, but I still can’t expect people to go out and buy the core book. It is very good, but expensive (well worth the price still). The Mission The first mission will be an extended exploration-scouting mission to a newly discovered world. The gate opens into a clearing of a coniferous forest, with trees as big as giant sequoias present in the surrounding area. The climate is similar to that of the Northern US and appears to currently be in late fall. The first team has found evidence of human activity but has yet to make contact with any of the indigenous people. The mission calls for the new team to come through the gate, establish a base camp, and begin exploration of the planet’s surface. Data from the last UAV shows that from the patterns of smoke coming up through the canopy the locals are probably nomadic, but could find little else as the forest extended throughout its entire range broken only by the occasional clearing, hill, and river. A mountain range rises to the north and the coast of a sea or ocean lies to the south and west. The team is expected to check in every other day. Dice Rolling for Stats The method I will use to roll the base stats is 4d6 drop the lowest roll, rerolling ones, and repeat seven times to take the six you want. I have not yet decided on how I will do this for online generated characters. Books As far as sources I currently own the core Stargate RPG book and the Unexplored Worlds book and will allow most of the character generation rules contained in them. Rules from other books will have to be cleared by me and I will need to see a copy for use of those rules in game for reference. http://www.stargatesg1rpg.com/ is the official website for the Stargate RPG.
