In case anyone's interested Article from DDN. Can't just post a link since they require the free registration and login. More than pride riding on UD's game at Xavier By Bucky Albers Dayton Daily News Hello, UD fans: Your Flyers will be playing for a divisional championship Saturday afternoon. Can you believe it? If the Flyers can beat Xavier at the Cintas Center, they will win the Atlantic 10 West Division championship outright or share it with George Washington. As you know if you've been a Dayton fan for very long, this team will be getting a huge monkey off its back if it beats Xavier in Cincinnati. The Musketeers have beaten UD 19 straight times in the Queen City. Not since Jan. 10, 1981 has Dayton defeated Xavier in Cincinnati. It's not difficult to understand why. Xavier teams during those 23 years have had some very talented players. Xavier stars Tyrone Hill, Aaron Williams, Brian Grant, James Posey and David West all have played in the NBA. During that period, Dayton's only NBA players have been point guards Sedric Toney and Negele Knight. And Xavier's superior talent has resulted not only in victories over Dayton but many trips to the NCAA Tournament. This year, Xavier has no player who has established himself as a likely NBA prospect. The Musketeers have had a wobbly season during which they have played well on occasion and lousy on others. Xavier is clearly a team with a split personality. I presume the Muskies will be charged up for Saturday's meeting, but will that be enough? Will they bring their "A" game to the Cintas Center? The Musketeers look vulnerable to me. The Flyers, who edged them, 59-55, at UD Arena on Feb. 19, could very well do it again. And wouldn't that be something if this freshman-heavy squad that looked so ordinary at the beginning of the season became the one to finally knock Xavier's door down after so many highly-regarded Dayton teams of the past failed. Having been a witness to most of those 19 losses, I'd be very hesitant to wager any of my hard-earned cash on a Dayton victory in Cincinnati. And yet I would not be shocked if it happened. Unfortunately for the Flyers, it's one of those all-or-nothing games. If they win, they're the A-10 West champions and they get a first-round bye in the tournament. If they lose, they slide all the way down to the third seed and get no tangible reward for their successful season. If that isn't a strong incentive for them to win, I don't know what it would take.
