Well, that most excellent time of year is here again: College hockey truly gets it start this weekend with several tournaments and the beginnings of non-exhibition play. Hopefully I'm not the only college fan on the boards or this is going to die quick. :p

Anyway, we've got the Lefty McFadden Tournament starting tonight, with the Icebreaker and Maverick Stampede firing up tomorrow. Big games this weekend include:

Friday:

North Dakota at Maine

Lefty McFadden Tourney:

Miami vs Boston University
Michigan vs Northeastern


Saturday:

Denver at Minnesota
North Dakota at Maine

Lefty McFadden Tourney:

Miami vs Northeastern
Michigan vs Boston University

Icebreaker:

St. Cloud State vs St. Lawrence
Ohio State vs New Hampshire

Maverick Stampede:

Rensselaer vs Merrimack
Connecticut vs Nebraska-Omaha

SCSU/SLU vs OSU
OSU/UNH vs SLU

Maverick Stampede:

Looks like the NoDak-Maine game was a good one last night, with the Sioux pulling it out in OT, 4-3. Should be another good one tonight.

BU showed its youth, getting hammered by Miami, 5-1. It was painful to listen to, lemme tell you! The refs definitely seemed to be cracking down as there were a lot of penalty calls. Ah, well, it is early yet. Hopefully, we put in a good showing against Michigan tonight.

Northeastern definitely pulled the upset of the weekend, downing #1 ranked Michigan 4-2. We'll see if they can keep the momentum going, but definitely a good start for them.

All in all, a pretty entertaining start to the season!
