Necklace of Adaptation

Does the necklace of adaptation protect against diseases and poisons that are inhaled? The text of the item says it makes the wearer immune to gases due to a pocket of fresh air around him.

Inhaled poisons are generally gases. As for diseases, I don't think so. It uses Water Breathing as a prereq, which wouldn't help against waterborne diseases.

In my campaign it uses Filter (from DotF or R&R I can't remember which) as a prereq. That spell does exactly the same thing as the necklace, so it makes sense to use as a prereq. Filter does not stop diseases.

Necklace of Adaptation: This necklace is a heavy chain with a platinum medallion. The magic of the necklace wraps the wearer in a shell of fresh air, making him immune to all gases and allowing him to breath, even underwater or in a vacuum.


Going by that wording I would say that if the disease was airborne, which not really many diseases are, then yeah, the necklace would protect the wearer since they are always wrapped in a shell of fresh air. Since the air is fresh how can there be impurities in it?

Diseases aren't impurities any more than humans are. As far as nature is concerned, they are just living creatures that happen to inhabit the area under the effects of the necklace.

Besides, if there is a disease in the air is that air concidered clean and pure?

The reason I'm thinking so far into it is that my gut tells me that the item wasn't meant to protect against airborne diseases. Once I realized that, I wanted an explanation. I don't think it would break the item to allow that, considering how few airborne diseases there are (at least in D&D).
