Necropolitan PCs?

For those of you who have seen the necropolitan template in Libris
Mortis...

What do you think of it? Is it balanced? Does it make for a viable PC?

Assuming the template itself is balanced, would you consider it a sneaky
trick if a player used Con as his dump stat with a character starting
the game with the template?

What about if he couldn't start with the template, but knew that he only
needs to fulfill the mechanical requirements (3000 gp and 2nd level, to
survive the transformation) and that the DM would allow him to get the
story requirement (acceptance by other necropolitans) with the minimum
of fuss?

Hey, a low Con score might make you want to become Necrolopitopilton, what ever that is. Especially if it makes them not need to use Constitution.

Exactly! A frail and sickly character turning to undeath as a means to get away from the limitations of his natural frame...

With a little imagination, you can justify anything: see the twinked-out bard/samurai/paladin/iaijutsu master character I posted in the Rogues' Gallery a while ago... The real question is is it mechanically balanced, and whether it should be disallowed on those grounds?

That's what I was thinking of. It's pretty obvious, really. The template doesn't look unbalanced; you give up a level, but there's no LA, so you'll eventually catch up with the rest of the party.

When you're creating this type of character, how do you keep the chocolate, strawberyy, and vanilla from melting into each other? Is there a specific feat?

You're thinking of Tasty Mastery, which first appeared in the 3.0 class splat book Knife and Fork, and was revised and reprinted in Complete Chef.

There has been a similar joke at the WotC forums where I also asked this question... could someone please explain the reference?

There's a particular ice cream "flavor" called Neapolitan - as in, "from Naples."

It's, generally speaking, Chocolate, Strawberry, and Vanilla, all side by side. :)

It's really good, if you like multiclassing. ;)
