Chosen Chosen One of Rongoon (Template) This template can be applied to a sentient creature of size H or smaller, after it is swallowed and regurgitated by Rongoon. The creature's type changes to Undead, with all corresponding abilities, HD level, attribute changes, etc. Creatures already undead cannot become Chosen, and neither can Constructs (even if somehow made sentient), Elementals, or Outsiders. HD: changes to d12 Initiative: Same as base creature Speed: Same as base creature, and they also gain a Climb 40' movement if not already possessed (and if they have the proper appendages) AC: Same as base creature Attacks: Same as base creature, plus a touch attack at their base attack bonus. Damage: Same as base creature, but any physical attack from one of the Chosen also saps vitality, inflicting subdual damage equal to half the physical damage inflicted with each hit. This subdual damage is NOT physical, it is spiritual, and it takes the form of a growing hopelessness and fear that eventually overwhelms the target. Though the damage types should be tracked separately, if their combined total reduces a target to 0 hit points, that target collapses into a shivering heap, unable to act in any way. Subdual damage from the Chosen fades at the same rate as normal subdual damage, unless the target is at 0 hp from it, which requires a Dispel Evil (cast against a DC of 37... Rongoon's charisma powers this) in order for the victim to recover. This subdual damage can be prevented by Negative Plane Protection, or similar spells. Note that creatures immune to fear are NOT immune to this subdual damage, and spells that protect against fear also are ineffective. Enchanted gold armor protects against this subdual damage, allowing only 1 such point to get past it. Special Attacks: As base creature, sans any attack having to do with positive energy. Any light-based attacks have their type changed to Darkness instead. The creature also gains the following: Rongoon's Promise (Su): The presence of the Chosen is unnerving, and anyone not worshipping Rongoon who encounters them must make a Will save against a DC of 10+.5 Chosen's HD+Chosen's CHAmod, or be Shaken until the Chosen is no longer present or until the effect is removed (Remove Fear, etc., against the same DC). This effect stacks with Rongoon's fear abilities; for example, one already Shaken by the presence of the Chosen moves to Panicked if failing to resist Rongoon's fear abilities. Conversion (Su): If the Chosen wishes, it may use a touch attack at BAB to inflict d10+CHAmod in subdual damage, as listed above. This can also be inflicted each round automatically if the Chosen manages to achieve a grapple with a target, and a common tactic with the Chosen is to swamp powerful targets in this way, sapping their will in order to present the new 'convert' to Rongoon. Special Qualities: As base creature, though once again, any effect having to do with positive energy is lost. The creature also gains traits appropriate to the Undead type, and the following: Resistance to Sonic (Ex): The creature gains Sonic Resistance of 20, and saves at +2 against sonic effects. Resistance to Turning (Su): The Chosen ignore all results of Turning unless it is indicated that they are Destroyed. If this result occurs, the Chosen simply flee back to Rongoon. Damage Reduction 15/+2, which increases to 30/+3 if the Chosen is within 250' of Rongoon itself. The Chosen also take only half damage from piercing weapons. If the base creature already has similar DR, this replaces it. Fast Healing 2, which increases to 6 within 250' of Rongoon. Track Nightmares (Su): This ability allows the Chosen to track anyone who has suffered Nightmares from Rongoon's presence. They are treated as having the Track feat for this purpose, though tracking conditions are always considered optimal no matter the terrain, etc. Areas consecrated to faiths other than Rongoon are 'blank spots' to them, and they cannot follow trails into such areas. Likewise, anyone who has had an Atonement since suffering Rongoon's Nightmares leaves no trail. Any SR previously had still exists, but those with none gain SR15 within 250' of Rongoon. Vulnerability to Gold (Ex): Gold weapons ignore Chosen damage reduction, and inflict an additional multiplier on critical hits. Vulnerability to Light (Ex): Chosen are at -2 to attack and saves in the presence of bright light. Saves: Same as base creature, modified for Undead type. Abilities: Same as base creature Skills: Climb and Move Silently both gain +10 or a rating of +10 if not already possessed. Otherwise, same as base creature, but all INT-based skills take a -10 modifier. Rongoon's consciousness impinges thought. Feats: As base creature. Note: NO class abilities are kept unless Rongoon swallowed the Chosen one while the base creature was still alive. Bonus feats are still effective otherwise, but any class abilities, spell-casting or psionic use is lost unless it is a natural ability. THose swallowed while still alive and thence made Chosen also retain full skill bonuses in all respects. Rongoon's Chosen cannot advance. The Chosen appear as the base creature, but with a uniform greying of skin, empty dark eyes, and a sort of crusting of something like chitin covering the body. They move with insectile grace, and speak in low whispering voices. They are all completely devoted to Rongoon, and will sacrifice themselves readily to prevent harm to their 'God'. They can no longer pass for a normal member of their kind unless well-disguised or bundled up. Though they can move about during the day, they are loathe to do so, and prefer to vanish with their 'God' when it disappears into Shadow every dawn. Note that unless swallowed, those not Chosen cannot return to Rongoon's realm with Rongoon at dawn. There 'tis. Criticisms! -MsM
