What noone knows is that from the beginning, the operation was compromised. You see, the capture of the crew was not the first encounter between Sapiens and the Aliens (unknown species designation). A crew of Aliens had visited earth and by accident had been marooned here. In fact, they had been here for a long time. 242 years in fact. Thier mission was to find new species to enslave. Sapiens were considered ideal candidates. Thier mission had been to gather data about this species and then return with several test subjects for examination and study. This information would be used to launch an invasion fleet tailored to the subjugation and exploitation of the Sapiens. July 16 1945 was an unlucky day for the Aliens. Thier spacecraft was hidden in New Mexico. Just as the crew was preparing to return home, the first nuclear weapon was tested. This damaged the ship, killed all but one of the crew and all of thier prisoners. The mission now was to escape Earth. Some of the equipment survived the test. The Alien still had use of a regeneration pod, a flesh cloaker and a portable power supply (enough for the trip home). So the Alien reintigrated itself into society, covertly developing technologies and selling the rights to acquire the capital necessary to complete its mission. The Alien periodically entered stasis in the regeneration pod for extended periods and then used the flesh cloaker to assume a new identity upon awakening. As time went on, it became more difficult to conceal its identity and activities. Eventually, the regeneration pod broke down and the Alien assumed its last Sapien identity. Senjin Nagami. The real Senjin Nagami was murdered just off the campus at Tsukuba University. The Alien discovered the body, disposed of it and entered class several days later as Senjin Nagami. Under this guise, the Alien continued to work subtly, doing good work, but not so good as to arouse the attention of "serious threats". However, without the benefit of the regeneration pod, the Alien finally began to succumb to old age. In desperation, it began developing technologies at a breakneck pace, "giving birth" to FTL. Unfortunately, the Alien was dying and would not survive the trip. Instead of assuming control of the mission to Alpha Centauri personally, the Alien sabotaged/reprogrammed the mission to travel to a new location (Its home system). Several days after the mission was launched, Dr. Senjin Nagami disappeared in an apparent kidnapping. In actuallity, the Alien died and staged the kidnapping to conceal this fact. So it comes to pass... the Alien accomplished its mission. The data gathered is in the backup computer onboard the Sapiens ship, along with a large crew for study. This surprised the Alien hierarchy, because they had long ago scrapped the mission. They had recieved communication from Earth at the time of the Nuclear Test and were thus aware the test had taken place. However, they had misunderstood the event, believing it to be an attack on the Alien crew and its ship. The Aliens figured that any species that would use that kind of weapon on a single transport was far too dangerous to even attempt enslaving and so Earth was forgotten for the last 212 years... Now Earth has been remembered, and the Aliens are coming... unless the crew of the Alpha Centauri mission can do something about it. Good luck Sapiens... you will need it.
