In 3.5e game I DM'ed a PC mage sacrificed himself to save a village full of terrified citizens (in reality he didn't he tried for all the money and treasure- failed spectacularly and in the process inadvetantly saved the village)- he was a hulking loud and authorative figure (with a rather large nose- we used to use a variety of tables to help visualise each PC) by the name of Wilberforce something or other (although mean and cruel at heart- and oh so greedy). Anyway the Player was absolutely delighted when his new PC turned up at the village to see people carving the likeness of Wilberforce into their homes (above the doors- to ward away evil), some families had set up small shrines et al, anyway he was suitably impressed and smug until he discovered that the villagers did indeed pay homage to 'Big Willy'- in the course of the campaign, which involved a modicum of time travel 'Big Willy' became a minor diety of 'funny shaped root vegetables.'
