I've been playing an elven abjurer/loremaster for the past few months (starting at 10/4 and moving to 10/7). After some intense adventuring over the past few sessions I have enough xp to probably go up two levels. Part of the recent adventure had included my character reclaiming a rather powerful longsword that was a lost family heirloom. With two levels to spend, and a shinny new weapon at my side, I though it might be time to branch out a bit into the warrior arts... Anyway, I figured since I now have access to 9th level spells, there is no major hurry to pick up the last few wizard spell levels and I may as well focus on other aspects of the character until epicness kicks in. Besides, depending on the classes I choose, I can still raise levels in Spellcraft and Knowledge: Arcana which means taking non-wizardly levels wont diminish my long term ability to cast epic spells. So, I was thinking of spending maybe one of my levels on fighter and then maybe going for the spellsword for a few levels so I can get some gnarly armour and not worry about spell failure (and still, slowly at least, acquire my spell levels). After that, I was interested in the windrider PrC from MotW, since it has some historical significance to my character's family. So I need help on a few counts - a) I've never played a character so high in level before, I'm not used to some of the wealth of options available, b) I've never played a spellcaster before, and since I started at level 14, I've not really learnt that many tricks of the trade in the past 6 months, c) I'm not really a very good min/maxer, but I think I need to be in this particular campaign, because some of the monsters are *nasty*, d) oh, and I have only the vaguest of notions about the Epic rules. Anyone care to offer character development advice? Cool combos/feats? Any min/maxing opportunities? How can I maximise the benefit of my impending epicness?
