I've been working on a world for a few years now and I've come to create new player races in this world, and they are mixed in with the regular races within 3.5. A new race I've been working on are called Rahkeen, which are half predatory cat, half human. Similar to the catfolk race, except that there are subraces to this race. Rahkeen; Lion, Rahkeen; Tiger, Rahkeen; Panther, Rahkeen; Cheetah. All Rahkeen are basically the same, but the subraces have different ability changes. Rahkeen gain low-light vision, they can see twice as far as human in starlight, moonlight, torchlight and similar conditions of poor illumination; base land speed is 30 feet; Because of their claws they are always considered armed and provoke NO attacks of opportunity when attacking unarmed. Rahkeen have a +2 racial bonus on Move Silently and Listen. Minor Heat Endurance (Ex): The Rakheen gets a +2 bonus on Fortitude saves made to resist the effects of hot weather or exposure. Rahkeen are naturally acclimated to a jungle climate, and they can tolerate the heat and humidity very easily. Lion: Rahkeen racial traits are as follows; +2 str, -2 dex Tiger: Rahkeen racial traits are as follows; +2 dex, -2 cha, -2 int Panther: Rahkeen racial traits are as follows; +2 con, -2 cha, -2 wis Cheetah: Rahkeen racial traits are as follows; - 1 int, -1 wis, +10 base speed My question is: As DM's do you think what I currently have here suitable to have as a race without any level adjustments? As players do you like the options of having the subraces for this race, or should all of the different animal types be the exact same stat wise? As a DM I run my games to the best of my ability to give the players a feeling of open worldness, where they don't need to feel that they have to go down one path, where changes happen in the world whether they decide to be a part of it or not; creating the feeling of a living world within a pen and paper game. As well I like to give my characters plenty of options when creating characters. This class isn't open to the players yet, but the race is a constant in most part of the world and especially where they are right now. Creative critic only. :)
