I started with OpenRPG, moved to Gametable (OSU-gt) and then discovered MapTool. Once I found MapTool, I was all set. I love this program, and I don't even use a framework - I've ended up building my own from scratch (just because I enjoy programming).I've been using MapTool plus Skype for my online game since last August, and it's worked like a charm. Technical difficulties are exceedingly rare. We have players across the US plus one person in England, and it's been fantastic. I hear nice things about Fantasy Grounds, but since it costs money and MapTool doesn't I feel like MapTool is the place to start - and the place to finish for me, since I'm totally happy with the program. I love MapTool so much that I bought a projector so that I could use MapTool to run my in-person games as well. It's nice to have all of my maps and monsters pre-loaded and ready to go. It's even easy to throw together an encounter on the fly, especially once you've built up a library of monsters to pull from and tweak.If you ever want to sit in on a MapTool game to see what it's like, or if you have any questions about using the program to run your game, please send me a message.
