First off, I don’t know how many of my players frequent these boards, but I wouldn’t be surprised, so – Ian, Sean, and Colin; stay out.
Now then, I’m planning on running an adventure this weekend that ties in with Halloween. I’ve got some basic concepts and ideas worked out, but I could use some help in a few places, and good advice is never a bad thing.
Before we get to the session itself, here’s a bit about the campaign. It’s a modern day game, and the PC’s have recently discovered that there’s a lot more to the world than they thought, namely magic, gods, other races and realms, etc. The current PC’s are Jessie, a 4th level Martial Artist (Hong’s class, as seen in Asgard 7), Chad, a 1st level rogue/3rd level Catholic paladin, and Max, a 2nd level fighter/2nd level Lutheran cleric. They reside in Chicago in 2002, and are currently returning there after failing to save Bellhold in several spectacularly hilarious ways ( Of Sound Mind ); their patron is Edward Dee, son of the English magus John Dee, who is trying to prevent several world ending events from coming about.
Now to the adventure. A short synopsis would be that the spirits of three dead heroes are contacting the PC’s through their dreams as Halloween, a time when the divide between this world and that of the dead is weakest, draws closer. 30 years ago the old heroes tried to stop an evil someone from doing something evil (this bit’s still flexible); they succeeded in wounding the baddie, but he killed them. Now, in 2002, he’s going to try again, and the spirits of the heroes are going to reach out to the PC’s to enlist their help.
As the dead heroes contact the PC’s through their dreams, I’m going to have the PC’s play as the heroes in their last few days. On October 28, when the PC’s go to sleep, they will dream of the last few minutes of the final showdown between the heroes and the baddie, in which the heroes wound the baddie then get slaughtered. On the 29th and 30th they will play as the heroes, but I don’t know what to have them do. Ultimately I want the PC’s to dream of the final encounter again on the 30th, but the whole thing, so that when they wake up on the 31st they’ll know what almost happened, where it almost happened, and that it’s gonna happen for real later that night. The PC’s race to prevent the baddie from doing evil, and with the help of the spirits of the heroes, hopefully stop him for good.
As for why the PC’s have been picked by the old heroes, the PC’s are a lot like the old heroes (a Shaolin Monk Martial Artist, a Catholic paladin/Hunter o’ the Dead, and a Lutheran fighter/Templar)
What I need to determine:
-What’s the evil plan (at least I know is should involve the weak divide between the worlds)?
-Who’s the baddie?
-How do the old heroes find out about the evil plan?
-What can the PC’s discover during the 29th and 30th on their own that won’t give everything away before Halloween?
Ideas? Suggestions?
