((This thread is especially prevalent to people who are familiar with Red Hand of Doom and the Pathfinder Chronicles Campaign setting)) Greetings, I'm not quite sure where to start so I'll begin with the beginning! In the beginning there was nothing and then Gygax spoke unto the void saying "Let there be game!" and he... Sorry, couldn't help myself. Basically I'm running a new campaign, I let the players make fresh characters after the last campaign went down in a fiery explosion that threatened to slay friendships but thankfully we recovered from that mess by starting anew. I made sure players didn't play their class, the guy who always plays a rogue was to give someone else a chance, the guys who always played arcane spellcasters, needed to do something else, other non-mechanic rules were included like Laptops being put away etc. Considering the drama that caused this restart and even, after a fashion, lead to me and my roommates rearranging the living room furniture (that story isn't as interesting as it might sound) I want to make sure I give them a good experience. As such I chose to start this game off, not with an Adventure Path like our last three campaigns (Age of Worms, The Forgotten Realms Super-Adventure Trilogy and Rise of the Runelords) but go with a looser model. We'll be playing Tower of the Pathfinder Module LB1 Last Baron and lead that toward Red Hand of Doom. Now how it leads in to Red Hand of Doom is easily done simply by twisting the primary hook for LB2 Treasure of Chimera Cove towards the opening hook of Red Hand of Doom. Unfortunately I find my self needing help, or at least advice... The campaign begins in Andoran with the more or less straigh-from-the-pages module of Tower of the Last Baron. After that the PC's are to go on to Red Hand of Doom. Wherein lies issue #1 Where should I place the Elsir Vale? Changing the climate isn't too much of an issue but I don't want it somewhere too far from Andoran (i.e. nowhere in Varisia or anything like that). The region should have mountains involved, perhaps be a former holding of Taldor or Cheliax. I unfortunately can't imagine where on the actual map. I posted this question on the Paizo boards but there wasn't much of a response so I'm hoping I can get more ideas here. There are other issues as well. Red Hand of Doom is very much a 3rd Edition Setting Module (not saying it can't be ported over to 4th with ease or anything like that) with 3rd ed Ogres, Hobgoblins, Monsters so on and so fourth. The Flavor of some of these classic monsters changed a bit in Pathfinder. While I'm not saying it's impossible to port over these flavor altered monsters to Red Hand of Doom for its use in the world of Golarion by any measure. Ogres, large and violent beasts are now large and violent hill billy beasts, still brought into the service of a certain Half Dragon though likely out of bloodlust rather than out of any reverence for Tiamat. So I guess my other problem is less a problem (a little tweaking would go a long way) rather than a request for advice: How would you bring Red Hand of Doom into Golarion and do it with style? What little twists would you add. Would you keep the draconic elements the same (I don't know if the supplement talking about Dragons will come out by the time I get into RHoD) or alter them a bit (never liked the Tiamat and Bahamut elements of D&D myself). Would you just tweak the army slightly so that they'd be more fitting to Golarion or would you go even further than that somehow. This, inevitably, leads me to this question: How would any of you alter the Elsir Vale region and civilization therein for Golarion? Pretty much just that. The region rests on the remnants of a former civilization. Not some great and ancient Empire but something relatively recent. Would Brindol have a Pathfinder Lodge? Would the Aspis Consortium be trying to get a foothold in the region? Would any one nation hold more sway over the land than another or would they leave it be? Anyway, I got distracted while writing this and my mind drifted to other things so I'll end this now and post any further questions later.
