Need help with an adventure! *My players stay out*

Adventurer
Here's the situation:

One of the PCs is a Warforged, we're playing in Eberron, and here's his history.

About 10 years ago #187 was smuggled out of House Canith by the old human wizard Rin Freetrader very shortly after he was first awakened. Rin had viewed the warforged as freewilled long before the treaty and took this one chance to free one from the bonds of endless war. #187 was treated as a mix of novelty, child, and experiment by Rin because he was more than happy to fulfill #187’s curiosities. Rin renamed #187 Mahthyis, a strange pronunciation of “I-am-that-is”, to reinforce that he was a real person, just like any thinking entity. In the eight years Mahthyis spent hidden away he learned about the world and its peoples from what Rin could tell him. In addition Rin tought him simple arcane spells that would aid him in life, which he learned despite his body hindering him. When the treaty was signed giving Mahthyis the legal status of freedom Rin decided that he would push Mathyis to learn the minor magics that could aid him as a warrior. Rin could forsee that one day Mathayis would have to leave and take care of himself in the world. He thought it only logical to build upon Mahthyis’ already staggering physical abilities with magic. The two of them live in Woodhelm in Breland.

At this point in the adventure, warforged sent by the Lord of Blades have come after the party a few times. In one instance, a warforged brute came after him specifically, telling him it was his "destiny." The brute would have been able to carry him off had it not been for the timely intervention of his fellow party members.

Recently, the PCs went into the Mournlands to an old House Cannith facility. During the search of the facility, the PCs found an old book. The only legible writing in it was "#187 is alive! The time is near for [indeciperable]" Mahthyis tried to take the body out of the Mournlands to Speak to Dead but the body perished when it left the protection of the Mournlands.

As it stands, Mahthyis has told the party about his past, he had made up a story before, and wants to go talk to his father to make sure he, Rin, is safe. One other member of the party has agreed to go with him. They are on their way back to Sharn and, once there, they will do a couple of things and then decide whether or not to go to find Rin.

Here's the conundrum: I have the next part of the campaign planned because the players have expressed interest in going to Xendrik. So that's where they're going. But now they have thrown this in there and I'm having trouble coming up with what should happened with Mahthyis' father. I mean, sure, I can have them travel there, talk to him, he tells them 187's secret and that's it, but I want it to be more exciting than that.

I have come up with one possible scenario in which the LoB's scouts follow the PCs to Rin and stuff happens. Can anyone please help me come up with other ideas? Are there some pre-written adventures that could help flesh this out a bit? Maybe one that involves the party going to see a relative?

Any help is appreciated. Hopefully I've fleshed this out enough for people to get an idea of what's going on. :)

If the party wants to go to Xen'drik, then tie the two together.

Rin left for Xen'drik, accompanying an archeological expedition sponsored by the university. Problem is, the expedition has vanished, Rin along with them.

If you have a adventure for Xen'drik already planned, make modifications to account for the missing expedition. If not, the first adventure could be them now being asked by the university to search for the lost expedition and determine their fate.

I knew there was a reason I love this board! I never even thought of that. It would be very easy to do too. :) Thanks!

Goals: 1. Explore the world with his new found freedom and learn to use his martial talents. (i.e. adventure to get stuff) 2. Mathyis wants to build a warforged. While he is thankful that his is now free to live as he sees fit, he is still not free to have a family of his own. Mahthyis does not like the Lord of Blades and thinks he is acting like little more than some goblin shaman yelling that all the world should belong to them, so reproduce and overwhelm the humans. He does not like this. On the other hand it is illegal to create more Warforged. So he is going to seek out house Canith and try to get in good with them. He figures someone must know how to do it, and he wants to learn too. If that fails he will try to change the laws so any warforged may create more warforged, but other races may not. For this law to safely become popular he thinks the Lord of Blades would need to be defeated by another warforged leader intent on peaceful coexistence with the meat sacks.

He's a Wiz1/Ftr3. Beyond the goals above, he's decided that while he would love to be a full time Wizard, his body just does not allow for it (Spell Failure 35%). He's still fascinated by magic and knows a lot about it, but he's constantly frustrated by his inability to cast more than a couple of "token" first level spells.

I'm going to hide the next bit of text for those who are playing in Eberron and using the Forgotten Forge and Shadows of the Last War adventures.

Right now the party has found 2 of the 4 schemas that House Cannith is looking for to create an Eldritch Machine. They have also found the pattern for the machine. One of the schemas is already in the hands of the Order of the Emerald Claw, even though the PCs don't know this. The player has a sneaking suspicion that one of the 2 "lost" schemas is inside him somewhere. I'm actually planning on taking it a step further. While there are 4 schemas, in order for the machine to be created, he has to act as a conduit. Kind of like Fifth Element.
