*What about a good resistance? Are these overlords known as in our current president or are they unknown like the architect in "The Matrix?"

*Is there a criminal element that needs to be dealt with?

*If there was one group of creatures that awoke from the long distant past, could there be others?

Food as a weapon.

how do people eat? how is food grown? where does it come from? how long are the growing seasons? are the plants sentient?

the smuggling idea can be used for this. so too can a soylent green campaign. or perhaps water world without the water. or road warrior/mad max.
