The head of this noble body wielded a fairly potent blade. It's name has been lost since but many such tales talk of the guard always being able to defend the ruling body and their city when necessary, and often against great odds. When Mount Chalesh erupted, the blade and it's wielder were considered to have vanished into the dust of the city. Sarrant also found the blade possessed many of the same qualities that he came to adore in it's maker, his lover and spiritual counterpart, Carythlla.
This is something I created for my own interest but I'd like some feedback on it as well. Here it is. [Editor's note, changed some of it's extraordinary powers to make it a little LESS powerful] The Legend of Mortis The history of Mortis actually came before the founding of Hollowfaust. When the city of Sumara was still a thriving metropolis, the satrap and the Council maintained a standing order of bodyguards to help in the protection of the city. That was until the day that Carythlla and her apprentices found it, the desiccated hand still clutching the blade. They saw potential and Carythlla knew that this blade should go to her lover, since he was one of the few warriors capable of aiding in the defense of Hollowfaust. Mortis became the favored weapon of Sarrant, wielding it soon after it had been enhanced and altered to suit the Anatomist's Guild's needs as well as that of Hollowfaust. She had asked one other, an journeyman necromancer to aid her it's making, since he was also one that helped to find the blade. He in turn imbued Mortis with it's special purpose, to defend the city of Hollowfaust from invaders. Finally, when Carythlla passed away, he decreed that the blade should choose it wielder, as it was fitting that the blade would aid other of the Unfailing. While a few of those have held it, Mortis apparently has found the new breed lacking for some reason. Thus it has not found much use of late. But always, it is kept and hoped that some day, someone else will wield the blade in defense of Hollowfaust. Mortis looks like and acts maleficent blade but it also has other properties, ghost touch, shocking, defending, wounding +5 bastard sword As part of it's extrodinary abilities, it grants the wielder regeneration 2, can detect undead and detect evil at will, and once per day can cast the following spells: Bull's Strength, Cat's Grace, Endurance, Nethergaze, and Control Undead.
