In time that son had another, and so forth. Each of the dynasty of Phantoms is, one after another, born into the legend then reared and rigorously drilled in the disciplines and the duties.IOW, when the first one dies or retires- call him Alpha- a new hero will join the trio and be known as "Alpha".  Then a new Beta or Gamma.(Joel Rosenburg did something like this in his Guardians of the Flame series, BTW.)</blockquote>
