Never thought I'd say: LARPers, I need you

I've learned a lot. But tell me from your experience:

How and how often do smaller units/individuals defeat larger units?

That's a tactic that actually works in the Runequest rpg. Does anyone know any other rpgs that do that?

It's not explicitly discussed in this system, but combat works like this: each character gets a handful of actions each round. If you want to defend yourself, that costs you an action. Also, to keep things moving, everyone can use single actions during the acting character's turn.

This means, for one, that if someone attacks you, you can use an action during his turn to defend yourself.

It also means that if you attack an opponent with a spear, and he chooses to defend against you, then he'll be vulnerable to anyone else attacking him at the same time. Effectively, you've tied up his shield for a moment.

I don't know any games that have explicit rules for it. Though doing a one-off ruling for an attempt should be easy in just about any game.
