Community Expansion Pack Preview
The CEP is the result of over two years' community development and contributions and contains a ton of high-quality, custom content for Neverwinter Nights. When it's available, it will be a simple download that takes just minutes to install and inlcudes such things as 450 creatures, 14 new weapons and thousands of components, 324 shields, 1448 new placeables, and more.

I think it's awesome that Bioware is picking the cream of the crop user-created NWN content to bundle in a single download. This summer, NWN will be two years old, but Bioware and the fan community are still continuing to support it with new content.

Some of the content that will be available in the community expansion pack looks incredibly cool, and rather than searching through Neverwinter Vault looking for the best stuff, I'll be able to download most of the good stuff as a single download when this is released. :D

All I can say is Yay! I've gotten so hooked on this and my new found PW. Hooray! More stuff is always good.

It's essentially a "best of" hakpack. Note that Bioware doesn't have anything to do with it, other than promoting it on their Web site. Legal issues prevent Bioware from directly incorporating community-made content into an "official" download.

Still, it will be nice to have a "standard" hak that builders can use with the expectation that many players will already have it.

One down side is that the download may be significant, and thus difficult for 56kers to acquire. They did leave tilesets (which are very space-intensive) out, and since tilesets do not reference 2da files, you can add a custom tileset hak to your module without disrupting the content of the CEP.

Yeah, this CEP will no doubt be a huge download, especially for a 56ker like me. I'm guessing it will be several hundred MB at least.

I'll probably have to lug my computer over to my friend's house and hijack his broadband for a few hours. :D

QUERY:

Is BioWare currently developing a 3.5e expansion of NWN? Or will that be NWN II?

No, Bioware is not currently developing a 3.5e version of NWN. And as for NWN 2, there is currently so such game in development.

Bioware's next project is based on their own intellectual property, AFAIK. It will more than likely be another RPG-type game though.

I'd offer to burn CDs and send them to people, but I don't have the money available for shipping at the moment, unfortunately. :(

Do you think it would be possible for me to bundle just the parts of the CEP that I used in development with my modules?

From the way I understand it, yes and no.

The CEP is made mostly from work on the Vault, which can be downloaded and added to modules via hakpak individually.

On the other hand, I don't think you'll be able to download the CEP, then only include bits and parts of it. It's kind of like SoU and HotU, in that it's more of an expansion pack - from what I understand it'll be using key files and such. The idea is that it's basically a community made expansion pack, so eventually people will come out with SoU/HotU/CEP-made modules - you'll need all three expansions to play them.
