You're right..Skip williams recently put out a new free adventure on the WotC page. I won't post most of the spoilers here, but what I really like about it comes from my position as a DM and the fact that any fledgling writer could take a great lesson from it. If any of you have any tips on it, let us know. SCENARIO DOWNLOAD: http://wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/oa/20041230a GOOD THINGS: * There are 4 combats and one that can be avoided. They are actually a little easy for the APL (but the scenario is typical for 4 characters not 6 like the Living campaigns). * The scenario would fit very well into a 4-hour slot (perfect for a one-night's adventure) * The scenario could be adapted to any level (change monsters (use charm instead of dominate) * The map is clear and concise. The scale is large enough to print well. * The Read-Aloud text paints the background for the PC's to interact with. It doesn't say "YOU" anywhere. * The DM's text is NICE AND SHORT. There's nothing worse than when an author thinks that if he has a page and a half of DM's text that it's a better encounter..not true :) Shorter is better. Trust your DM. THINGS THAT COULD BE BETTER: * It's linear with no red herrings * There should be the _names_ of a couple NPC villagers that the PC's can talk to. * Although the Couatl's name sounds very "Central American," that doesn't mean that it's a good name. Unpronounceable names are just as annoying as names that sound too modern * I'd like a basic city map (put the Cemetary and Temple locations for sure Adapting it to Eberron: * The temple could be to the "Sovereign Host" * A changeling could be implicated * A hook could be linked to an organization jh
