New Character ideas

Salthorae

Imperial Mountain Dew Taster
Hey Everybody! Ok so my character died DED last night in my regular game, and while he was a blast to play, we don't have the resources to raise him (Stonechild (RoS) are outsiders so we'd need Limited Wish/Wish/Miracle/True Res & we're just 9th level)...

I rolled a pretty sweet set of stats on 4d6 drop lowest, but I'll admit it... I'm kind of out of ideas for characters. here are the stats: 17, 14, 16, 15, 11, 12. 8th level, standard wealth. Books available: any WotC except MIC as our DM doesn't have it yet & Tome of Battle as I'm not enamored with that book... Oh and our DM has recently banned Warlocks so none of those either :)

Please give me ideas people! I've pretty much played every role lately (wizards, clerics, fighters, rogues) so I'm not really partial to one right now, which is why I need help I think... I have 2 weeks before our next session.

THANKS!!

Sorry, should have posted that too.

we have:
  • 1/2E - Wizard 8
  • 1/2E - Witch 10 (just leveled, not sure if it's the example class in DMG or not)
  • Halfling - Rogue 9 (with a 1/2 ogre cohort)
  • Human (?) - Cleric 8 (soon to join)
  • Human - Barbarian/Warblade 8
  • 1/2E NPC - Ranger/Rogue/Harper Scout (she brought us into the adventure and is still helping out a bit...
So we're pretty well covered in all the classes actually. We are in Forgotten Realms so nothing from Eberron either I guess... Umm I think that's it ;)

Dragon Shaman. It doesn't look like you've got anybody who can tank particularly well, and the auras are multiplied in effect with that many characters.

Since your party has all of the bases covered already, I'd go with a class or concept that's odd or perhaps not a very efficient character. Are there any classes that you always wanted to play but never have because you needed to fulfill one of the 4 major D&D roles?

Well, the Warblade/Barb can probably tank pretty well, but yeah, I've been looking at the DS lately, and it defiantly is a neat little class.

On that note, I'd say: try something new/weird/different. You don't need pure spellcasters (two Wizards and a Cleric), so here are some choices:

Dragon Shaman - tank/aura-monkey
Factotum (DunScp) - something new and likely not yet tried in your group.
Knight 8 - pure tankage, if it interests you
Paladin 4/Fighter 4 - get weapon Spec and some divine feats (like Divine might).
Marshal - aura monkey and tank; ask DM for 1-1 BaB, since it's kinda underpowered.
Swashbuckler 3/Fighter 4/Duelist 1 - get some nice Int-based bonuses and tank it out.

Hope that helps!

cheers,

If you've got Tome of Magic, try a binder. They are fantastic fun to play, from a roleplaying standpoint, and mechanics wise the ability to change your character from day to day is also fantastic fun.

Of course, they ain't the world's most powerful class but their ability to fill in the gaps is amazing.

In our current adventure, I started off as a highly dextrous, rapier finessing healer with uncanny dodge. I found out the hard way that the party's three 9th level spellcasters were apparently stymied by invisible creatures :\ , so I switched to a rapier finessing guy with sneak attack and see invisible at will.

Once in the mountains, invisible creatures were no longer a threat, but we were meeting lots of cold creatures, so I swapped my see invisibility for a fiery breath weapon (and horns).

We are now heading for a showdown with a white dragon, so the casters are stocking up on fireballs and flamestrikes. However, we are worried that the dragon might be buffed, and might not be white at all (NPCs have a disturbing habit of lying to us at every turn).

As a result, I am going to stand next to the dragon so its affected by my aura of sadness (-2 to almost everything), use my dispelling touch on it every 5 rounds to try and remove its buffs, and use my at will 4d6 lightning bolts (reflex half) in the hope that it won't be protected against electricity.

And if that doesn't work I'll come back tomorrow and try something else!
