If you've got Tome of Magic, try a binder. They are fantastic fun to play, from a roleplaying standpoint, and mechanics wise the ability to change your character from day to day is also fantastic fun. Of course, they ain't the world's most powerful class but their ability to fill in the gaps is amazing. In our current adventure, I started off as a highly dextrous, rapier finessing healer with uncanny dodge. I found out the hard way that the party's three 9th level spellcasters were apparently stymied by invisible creatures :\ , so I switched to a rapier finessing guy with sneak attack and see invisible at will. Once in the mountains, invisible creatures were no longer a threat, but we were meeting lots of cold creatures, so I swapped my see invisibility for a fiery breath weapon (and horns). We are now heading for a showdown with a white dragon, so the casters are stocking up on fireballs and flamestrikes. However, we are worried that the dragon might be buffed, and might not be white at all (NPCs have a disturbing habit of lying to us at every turn). As a result, I am going to stand next to the dragon so its affected by my aura of sadness (-2 to almost everything), use my dispelling touch on it every 5 rounds to try and remove its buffs, and use my at will 4d6 lightning bolts (reflex half) in the hope that it won't be protected against electricity. And if that doesn't work I'll come back tomorrow and try something else!
