New eladrin fighter powers: light blades required. Eh?

From the Mithrendain, Citadel of the Feywild article:

To be fair, the powers aren't actually for light blades only, they require either a light blade or a spear. Eladrin apparently like spears (Eladrin Soldier points to that), but they like longswords even more (the racial proficiency points to that), and longswords are heavy blades.

So we get new eladrin fighter powers in an article about an eladrin city, which can't be used with the eladrin favoured weapon.

WTF?

Light blades make more sense for eladrin, if you ask me. You could just have the new powers work with longswords, but I'd leave the powers as they are and change the eladrin racial proficiency to rapiers instead of longswords. (And change Wizard of the Spiral Tower too, I suppose.)

Is it just me or are the magic items in that supplement identified by level but have no corresponding enhancement bonus listed? I can infer a lot of them, but the shield perplexes me.

There are two possibilities;
1) It should be spears and heavy blades and the author made a mistake.
2) It was made that way for balance.

I hope it is option 2.

You are aware that 4E only gives enhancement bonuses to the following, yes?
A.) Armor slot items: armor and robes;
B.) Weapon items: Weapons and Implements;
C.) Neck slot items: Cloaks and Amulets.
If not, now you do. And so, neither shields nor rings have enhancement bonuses in 4E.

EDIT: But you're right, that shield is messed up. As written, there doesn't seem to be any reason to ever buy the Paragon or Epic versions of this item.

I'm going to assume that something to the following effect was omitted from the item (Shield of the Barrier Sentinels, page 12, retrieved at 19:47MT, 8 Aug 08):
Level 19: +4 bonus.
Level 29: +6 bonus.
This seems in line with the progression of other, similar items in the PH.

I also wonder if the shield's currently-untyped bonus was supposed to be typed as an item bonus. Any thoughts?

Yes, I'm aware that those items don't have enhancement bonuses. I see that you get the shield conundrum, and I would say I agree with you on what the paragon/epic tier versions should look like.

It seems to be standard that magic item properties grant an item bonus (and magic item powers grant a power bonus).

edit: the watcher's signet: Ergh. An invisibility arms race. That didn't take long. I would remove the ring's property and instead make it a property of the revelation spheres.
