New Feats: Breath Control & Free diving

Feat: Breath Control
Benefit : A character with this feat has learnt to control their breathing and on making a successful Concentration check gains a temporary benefit according to their rank

Breath control can be taken multiple times (max 5 ranks) and with each rank the character can stack previous ability or gain new ability

Rank
1 +1 bonus to ranged attacks

2 + 2 Will saves

3 + 2 to spot checks

4 + 2 Skill focus (any skill)

5 heal 1d4

Feat: Free diving
Prereqs: Con 12+, Breath Control

Freediving allows a character to hold their breath under water for much longer than what is usual for their race. Normally a character can hold her breath for a number of rounds equal to twice her Constitution score.
A Freediver makes a concentration check (DC 10) and is then able to hold her breath for d4+con modifier additional rounds. The DC increases +2 per check.

An additional advantage of freediving is that the character does not suffer the 1d6 pressure damage usually caused by water for as long as they make a successful concentration check. However if a concentration check is failed and the character is at risk of drowning they must surface quickly and then suffer 1d6 damage from 'the bends'

Salutations,

It seems a little odd to have a feat give multiple effects depending on how many times it has been taken, but it works for me.

Some suggestions:

First- the feat can only be used once a round. No matter which ability you are using.

Second- you need to assign DC's to the concentration check.

Rank 1: Make it a competence bonus and make the bonus apply only in full round attack actions or however it is phrased. heh.

DC= 10 + number of combatants in the battle

It makes sense that it is harder to stay calm the more chaotic the
battle gets.

Rank 2: DC= DC of spell being saved against



Rank 3&4: Scratch the bonus- allow them to make a concentration check to Take 10 in stressful situations. This would be a very nice ability.

DC= 20 or DC of skill being used

Rank 5: This seems too powerful. How many times can this be done? Subdual or real damage? How about just taking Freediving and making it the last effect?

My last suggestions is to just break them up into seperate feats that have the others as prereqs:

Rank 1 Controlled Breath could be- Calm Heart(or whatever)
Rank 2 could be: Calm Soul
Rank 3&4 could be: Calm Mind

Just some things you might want to know.

From the PHB: "Unlike skills, feats don't have ranks. They represent an ability that a character either has or doesn't have."

Also, its generally accepted that feat prerequisites in the form of ability scores should have odd values. This gives characters a reason to put their 4th level ability points in abilities that have an even score. (they got a +1 for making it even)
