Hi everyone. Here is a new magic item that I am thinking of including in my campaign. Please let me know what you think, and how much should it cost. At low levels, it is not powerful, but it increases in power as the player increases in level. Let me know what you think. Thanks in advance. The Grand Master Arminas Monk’s Robes The monk’s robes are a set of silk-lined cotton robes that cover the wearers’ body from neck to calf, and reach along the arms to the wrist. It includes a hood that can be worn down around the head as a cowl, or raised to cover the head. These robes are secured across the waist by a silk and cotton braided rope-like belt that is wrapped three times across the body, then tied in a knot over the left or right hip. These robes are magic items that increase with power as the wearer does and provide many benefits over time. Some monastic organizations provide them to all true monks (i.e. those who take levels of the monk class) who are members of that organization. These robes alter in coloration over time, reflecting the power of the wearer. Normally a light gray in color when worn by a very low level monk, or indeed by anyone other than a monk, they darken as new abilities are gained. The robes change to dark gray when worn by a monk of at least 4th level, to brown when worn by a monk of at least 8th level, and to black when worn by a monk of at least 12th level. The belt begins as white, but changes to green at 4th level, to red at 8th level, to silver at 12th level, to gold at 16th level, and to black at 20th level. When worn by a non-monk, or by a monk of 3rd level of less, the light gray robes with a white belt bestow a + 1 enhancement bonus to armor class, as well as a + 1 resistance bonus to all saving throws. The wearer, if a monk, gains access to the extra stunning feat, gaining 3 more stunning attempts per day, and gains a + 1 modifier to the DC of his stunning fist attacks. When worn by a monk of at least 4th level, but less than 8th level, the dark gray robes with a green belt retains the bonuses to armor class and saving throws at + 1. He retains the extra stunning feat and still adds + 1 to the DC of his stunning fist. In addition, the wearer is protected from normal heat and cold (fire resistance 3 and cold resistance 3) and, unless totally submerged in a liquid, remains dry even in the midst of a storm. When worn by a monk of at least 8th level, but less than 12th level, the brown robes with a red belt increase the bonuses to armor class and saving throws to + 2. He retains the extra stunning feat and may now add + 2 to the DC of his stunning fist. The resistance to fire and cold increase to 5 each, and the monk retains the ability to remain dry and comfortable. In addition, when the hood is drawn over the head, the wearer gains low-light vision (as per the 0 level psionic power elf sight). When worn by a monk of at least 12th level, but less than 16th level, the black robes with a silver belt increase the bonuses to armor class and saving throws to + 3. He retains the extra stunning feat and may now add + 3 to the DC of his stunning fist, as well as quivering palm if he is 15th level or higher. The wearer retains fire resistance 5, cold resistance 5, and the ability to remain dry and comfortable, as well as the low-light vision. In addition, he gains electrical resistance 5 and the ability to haste, as per the 3rd level arcane spell, upon the utterance of a command word, once per day at per a 10th level sorceror. When worn by a monk of at least 16th level, but less than 20th level, the black robes with a gold belt increase the bonuses to armor class and saving throws to + 4. He retains the extra stunning feat and may now add + 4 to the DC of his stunning fist and quivering palm. The wearer retains fire resistance 5, cold resistance 5, electrical resistance 5, and the ability to remain dry and comfortable, as well as the low-light vision. He may now use haste twice per day, and may use the special monk ability abundant step twice per day, instead of once. When worn by a monk of at least 20th level, the black robes with a black belt increase the bonuses to armor class and saving throws to + 5. He retains the extra stunning feat and may now add + 5 to the DC of his stunning fist and quivering palm. The wearer retains fire resistance 5, cold resistance 5, electrical resistance 5, and the ability to remain dry and comfortable, as well as the low-light vision. In addition, once per day, the wearer may use darkvision, as per the 2nd level arcane spell, cast by a 10th level caster and is now protected by a continual mind blank, as per the 8th level arcane spell. In order to power these abilities, whenever a monk first wears the robes, the monk immediately loses 5% of his total experience points, though he cannot lose a level through this XP loss. If the monk enough experience to drop one or more levels, then he loses just enough to be the level that is a currently at. After that, the monk reduces all experience points gained by 5%. This XP drain fuels the ever-increasing abilities of the robes.
