Nasus’s Folly
Created by a Sorceress named Nasus who dabbled in magical alteration of beasts, Nasus’s Folly was an experiment gone horribly wrong. Her intent was to create a creature capable of protecting her tower from rogues and thieves. The creature was supposed to simply be immune to all metal weapons. She spent months perfecting a spell that would allow two stirge to breed and create an offspring capable of this feat. When the time came, the stirge bred 8 offspring. To her surprise, the stirge were identical in appearance except for a glisten to the underside of their wings. Each had a different colour. Blue, green, red, black, purple, yellow, gray and white. Pleased with her apparent success, she let them loose in the lower levels of her tower and worried about thieves no more.
Unfortunately for her, her success was short lived – as was she. Two weeks later, the Blue Stirge escaped from the lower level and entered her living area. It attacked and wounded her. In an act of self-preservation, she cast magic missile on it and it fell to the ground dead. Or so she thought. Mere seconds later, from the corpse of the first Blue Stirge, two more arose. They turned and attacked her again. Curious, but not worried, she cast cloudkill on them. Again they fell to the ground, dead. Seconds later, four Blue Stirge arose from the remains of the two before them. She spent two full minutes defending herself with her magic and her staff before she was killed and 22 Blue Stirge buzzed victoriously over her dead body. Later, when her body was found, only one Blue Stirge lay dead at her feet, a victim of her staff. She would never know why it died without duplicating. Soon others would learn. Of course, not before accidentally freeing the other Stirge trapped in the lower levels of her tower…
Care and Feeding
A Coloured Stirge, like any living creature, needs to eat to survive. Each of the types of Stirge needs to digest 2 points of its type of attack per day to survive. A stirge can store up to 10 points before it is full. A full stirge can last five days. At the end of the sixth day, it will disintegrate. Coloured Stirge will typically eat until sated. When encountering a Coloured Stirge, roll 2d4+2 to determine how much it will eat before sated.
Coloured Stirge - Physiology
The Coloured Stirge is not very powerful creature alone, but to someone who does not understand their nature, a single creature can be enough to defeat a large party. Each of the eight colours of Stirge can only be destroyed by a specific type of attack. Any time a Coloured Stirge of any colour is killed, there is a 2% chance that a White Stirge will arise instead of one of the original colour. Each colour of Stirge has a specific type of attack that it carries out.
