Description
The Fear Daemon is a creature from another time and place that usually sticks to one area they thrive off of and feed every 13 years. They tend to sense the fears of young children and lure them in with promises of dolls, toys and even candy. Once the child is lured in, the creature goes in for the kill. Once the child is dead, feeding on its fear, the memory of their existance is erased from the adult population. But children still seem to remember them.

Combat
Undead are immune to poison, sleep, paralysis, stunning, disease, death effects, and necromantic effects, and they ignore mind-influencing effects. Undead are not subject to critical hits, subdual damage, ability damage, ability drain, or energy drain.

A slain outsider cannot be raised, even with a Wish or Miracle.

The Fear Daemon usually lures the child in with its illusions and then plays on its fear while it devours them whole.

Alter Self (Ex): The Fear Daemon can assume any shape of a Small or Medium-sized creature. This works like the spell alter self cast by an 18th level sorcerer.

Improved Grab (Ex): To use this ability, the Fear Daemon must hit with both of its claw attacks. If it gets ahold, it can attempt to swallow the opponent whole.

Sense Fear (Su): A Fear Daemon can detect a childs fear as per the detect thoughts spell as if cast by an 18th level sorcerer (save DC 16). It can supress or resume this ability as a free action. The Fear Daemon can only use the detect thoughts spell to find fears.

Swallow Whole (Ex): The Fear Daemon can try to swallow a grabbed Medium-sized or smaller opponent by making a successful grapple check.

The swallowed creature takes 1d6+1 points of crushing damage and an additional 2 points of acid damage each round from the digestive juices inside the Fear Daemon. A swallowed creature can try to cut through the Fear Daemon using claws or a Small or Tiny slahing weapon dealing 15 points of damage (AC 15). Once out, the creatures musculature will close and another swallowed opponent will have to re-cut its way out.

I have a couple of questions. First, do adults get a save of any sort? What happens to the parents when they see a room furnished for a child they don't have?

Second, why does an incorporeal creature with no digestion do crushing and acid damage? Also, what about cutting themself out, you have no rules for this. How about changing it to each round the victim must make a will save (DC 19) or be paralyzed for 1 round and take 1d4 permanent/temporary wis drain from fear. They can escape with a grapple check.

Hi Angelsboi! :)

Great Sig. animation by the way! :D

I was wondering about the name. I mean it doesn't really cause fear. Also its not really a daemon. So...?

Perhaps instead of being swallowed whole the creature would simply 'envelop' a target and drain an ability score rather than deliver crushing damage.

the parents pass it off as crib death or something.

Also, it feeds off the childs fear therefore it name. I like the wisdom damage but this is based off of the creature from IT and as we all know it had a large mouth with big pointy teeth

"Mist" isn't a subtype. Is that supposed to be Incorporeal? And if so, I don't think it should be able to swallow whole (kinda defeats the whole incorporeality thing :))

please pick up Ravenlofts' Denizens of Darkness. Mist IS a subtype =)

My mistake. I was using the Core Rules only. I have the aforementioned book but don't use it (didn't much care for it).

So- ignore my incorporeal suggestion above.

corect me if i am wrong but in D&D doesnt swallow hole only work against creatures who are at least 2 size catagories smaller than the creature attempting to swallow them. i thought i read that this is a creature from a different game, but i am pretty sure that is the rule in D&D. and if this deamon feeds off of fear, and is incorporeal, why does it need physical sustenence. (i.e. swallowing the child) i like the above sugestion of ability drain. maybee make it wisdom drain down to 0 and permanent, only revearsable by heal, limited wish, and wish. and what about gnomes and halflings, they are the size of medium size creatures children, could this deamon feed off of them??are you trying to make it children only? because it would just as easiliy be able to feed off of adult fears as chilish ones. well these are my thoughts i hope that they help.
