I figure it's entirely possible that he's gotten a level or two since Azure City. After all, that's an awful lot of summoned help, and we've never seen him use actual outsiders, only a fiendish mammoth. But, even with 8th-level spells "only," he'd've mopped the floor with the non-leveled resistance, and probably most of the levelled ones. I figure it's much more prosaic; Xykon would be very, very upset to have the phylactery slip through his grasp, and he's already pissed at Redcloak for loosing the phylactery during V's assault on the tower. While he probably was willing to let the resistance do its thing (after all, the goblin empire has to sink or swim on its own), their taking the phylactery means he has to take the gloves off and unload on them, otherwise Xykon will likely eat him alive. Though, he could be trying to run a fast one on Xykon. Though he may not have realized that *he* is expendable to Xykon, since Xykon has his own pet divine caster who worships the ground he walks on, and will happily run the ritual without needing to be placated. That may turn out very badly for Redcloak. Or he could've just chosen today to kick in their door and deal with them. I imagine we'll find out next week. Brad
