New Oriental Adventures errata

The OA errata are here.

It lists the blade dancer's alignment as "any nonchaotic." Didn't the FAQ give it as "any nonevil" at some time...?

Thoughts?

Woo-hoo, about time!

Yeah, the FAQ (still) lists the blade dancer as non-evil. Oh well, chalk it up to a miscommunication between Skip and James Wyatt.

And the ki-rin is CR 29??? Yeesh! Okay, it casts spells as an 18th level sorc, but still....

Word, my friend, word...

*nods* Heh. I guess that my players would prefer non-evil (since they like to play chaotic characters). ;) Of course, with non-chaotic, I could use it for villains more easily. :D

I agree; it's way too high. Perhaps they meant 19? (It was 18 before.)

I would assume that non-chaotic would be the way to go, since JW mentioned _A Chinese Ghost Story_ as the inspiration for the class, and there are two flying swordsmen in that movie: a good guy, and a bad guy.

hmm...

i would like to wait and see what WOTC has to say about that...

but, I would be more inclined to go with any non-evil. the last paragraph of the prestige class mentions that most bladedancers spend time hunting evil creatures. i see this as something that mostly non-evil characters would do. the last paragraph also describes bladedancers as being very loners, eccentric, and noisy, which in my opinion, describes many chaotic characters.

in my opinion, i would go with non-evil instead of non-chaotic, since I feel it makes more sense, based on the description of the prestige class.

on the other hand, i am a big advocate of DM's changing things to suit their campaign, so if someone feels that chaotic is more appropriate for their campaign, then go for it.

BTW, at the beginning of the FAQ, it mentions directing any rules questions to custerv@wizards.com. Is this different than the Sage? I thought that the Sage was still working in that capacity, although he is no longer an employee of WOTC.

that being the case, who determines what is actually eratta rules-wise, the sage or this custserv@wotc, whoever or whomever they may be...

It is possible that the R&D Staff have later changed their mind and not go with the earlier ruling that Skip (the messenger) provided in an earlier FAQ posting.

While Skip is the authority, his answer can always be overridden by the R&D Staff, aka the Rules Council, anytime even late in the game.
