OK, this one's got a weird story behind it. My friend got a spam e-mail promising to make him a "sexual ghuru", and he asked me, naturally, what a ghuru is, and could it be playable in D&D. I trimmed out the "sexual" bit, and this was the result of my fecund, if slightly off, imagination. Its brown eyes stare at you intelligently, and it clutches a spear in its paw. Ghuru are a species of intelligent, carnivorous, lemur-like humanoids. Ghuru usually live in large bands among the treetops. Able climbers, they create semi-permanent communal nests woven between branches (large tribes might have nests connecting entire groves), where the females gather fruits and take care of their young while the males defend the nests and hunt monkeys, forest pigs, and other sources of meat, the tribe’s primary food source. They are also known to train carnivorous apes as guard animals. A ghuru stands about 3 feet tall and weighs about 40 pounds. They speak Ghuru, a hooting language that can carry long distances between treetops. They are a spiritual people, venerating the Vine Father, an aspect of Obad-Hai. Combat Ghuru prefer coordinated pack attacks, assaulting in waves and from hiding. They use their climbing skill to dart away from ground-bound foes and prepare another wave of attack. Skills: Ghuru have a +8 racial bonus on Climb checks and can always choose to take 10 on Climb checks, even if rushed or threatened. Ghuru as Characters Ghuru leaders tend to be either rangers or druids. Most ghuru spellcasters are druids or sorcerers; the rare ghuru cleric worships the Vine Father. Ghuru Traits: Ghuru possess the following racial traits. -2 Str, +2 Dex, -2 Int Small size: +1 bonus to Armor Class, +1 bonus on attack rolls, +4 bonus to Hide checks, -4 penalty on grapple checks, lifting and carrying limits ¾ those of Medium characters. A ghuru’s base land speed is 20ft and it has a climb speed of 30ft Low-light vision +8 racial bonus on Climb checks, can always choose to take 10 on Climb checks, even if rushed or threatened. Natural Weapons: 2 claws (1d3) Automatic Languages: Ghuru. Bonus Languages: Common, Elven, Goblin, Orc Favored Class: Ranger.
