New Season of Justice League

Have you guys been watching? Guest star voices galore!

The Once and Future Thing (parts 1 and 2) was technically the two-part season finale from last season, but they showed it with this one because it hadn't been finished in time.

In Part 1, Weird Western Tales, they had Ben Browder (John Crichton of Farscape) doing the voice of Bat Lash, the roguish Maverick-knockoff, and Adam Baldwin (Jayne of Firefly) doing the voice of Jonah Hex, badass bounty hunter with a big gun. In the season opener that was just this past weekend, Morena Baccarin (Inara of Firefly) did the voice of Black Canary. And in Wake the Dead from last season, Gina Torres (Zoe of Firefly) did the voice of Vixen.

Next week, we see the return of the Flash, who's been gone all season 3 (except as a backup nonspeaking role). And in two weeks, Amy Acker (Fred of Angel) is the Huntress, and the Question (Jeffrey Combs) returns, as well as Black Canary.

No cartoon since Gargoyles has had such an impressive lineup of guest stars. Andrea Romano, the casting director, must be a genre fan. Damn, I love this show.

Bonus Question: Of the remaining Firefly stars, which DC character would you cast? For example, Sean Maher (Simon) might make an interesting Doctor Midnight, although he's a bit young for the role. Midnight is a bit darker and far more confident than Simon Tam.

Nathan Fillion - Captain Malcolm "Mal" Reynolds
Alan Tudyk - Wash
Jewel Staite - Kaywinnit Lee 'Kaylee' Frye
Sean Maher - Dr. Simon Tam
Summer Glau - River Tam
Ron Glass - The Shepherd Book

Nathan Fillion -> Green Lantern (Hal Jordan)
Alan Tudyk -> Blue Beetle
Jewel Staite -> Wonder Girl (Cassandra Sandsmark)
Sean Maher -> Mister Miracle
Summer Glau -> Batgirl (Cassandra Cain)
Ron Glass -> Black Lightning

Can they use Blue Beetle? I heard there was some kind of legal technicality or something over animation rights that kept him out of the episode with Booster Gold. I don't know why, except that it doesn't have anything to do with Charlton Comics, since they've used the Question and Captain Atom without any trouble. It's a shame at any rate. I'd love to see Booster and Beetle together with Ralph Dibny and some other JLI-era characters...

I don't know anything about Firefly and its actors, since I don't watch it... but I know that Captain Marvel needs to be voiced by Patrick Warburton.

Those are some great choices, guys!

First, Patrick Warburton and Captain Marvel - absolutely a must. One of the very few cases of an actor being a dead ringer for a role.

It's great to see an amazingly expanded team, but the names that have been left out are pretty puzzling, especially Blue Beetle, Captain Marvel, and Firestorm.

Mister Miracle appears in this week's episode, with the Flash, so of course he's already been cast. Ioan Gruffudd, who played Horatio Hornblower in the movies and is the upcoming Mister Fantastic, plays the role of Mister Miracle. I'm really looking forward to this one, actually. When you look at the Justice League's Big 7, few heroes seem worthy to really fit in with the likes of Superman, Batman, and the others.

Mister Miracle would be a great addition to the core team. Created by Jack Kirby, his legacy is certainly worthy enough. Although he doesn't have any powers, his Mother Box and Boom Tube technology would add a lot to the team's abilities. More importantly, the JLA doesn't really need power (it's got plenty of that) as much as skill, experience, and intelligence, and Mister Miracle should one of the top names of that wanted list. A guy who can find his way out of any situation (world's greatest escape artist) is definitely a handy guy to have around. He adds a technological know-how unmatched by anyone on the team except Steel, and also creates a more direct link between the JLA and Darkseid. He was criminally underused in his brief time with the team in the comics (as were Captain Marvel and Animal Man, among others).

At first, I wasn't too sure about that choice. Then I imagined hearing Warburton yelling, "Holy Moley!" and I was sold. :)

I thought it was interesting that they had Dennis Farina as Wildcat. He's a great actor, but I always imagined Wildcat having a "rusty nails" kind of voice. Someone like Ed Asner.

Farina would have been better as Green Arrow. I don't really care for the guy they have now.

BTW, I was looking around the internet to see what Justice League toys are coming out. One of them was the old Starman (the alien). I wonder if he's going to be a part of an upcoming episode. I think he's only been in the background so far.

I still want a Solomon Grundy and Vixen action figures. :cool:

Actually... I think the ideal situation with the Big Red Cheese would be if we could reach back through the timestream and bring a young Fred MacMurray to the present to voice Captain Marvel. Assuming he wasn't overwhelmed by culture shock. But since we haven't yet invented the flux capacitor, Warburton is the ideal choice.

Another actor I recognized in that episode is Nestor Carbonell (Batmanuel on The Tick) as El Diablo.

I'm looking forward to the 18th showing of the return of Doomsday. That along with some more interesting twists. Last night's JLU rocked cause FINALLY Wally/The Flash did more than be non-existent.

Part 2 of Once and Future Thing was the best for me, probably since I'm a huge BB fan.
