Two recurrection-type spells I've created for my Midnight game. These will be the only resurrection magic available to the good guys (PCs' side). Cup of Life is a limited-duration spell and Breath of Life sorta equivalent to Raise Dead. Any comments welcome. (Midnight-specific stuff: Chn=Channeler, the single spellcasting class in MN. Greater Conjuration means casters in MN need the Greater COnjuration Spellcasting feat to gain access to the spells.) Cup of Life Conjuration, Greater Level: Chn4 Components: V, S, M Casting Time: 1 round Range: Touch Target: Dead sentient creature touched Duration: 1 week/caster level or until discharged Saving Throw: None (willing creature only) SR: No This spell calls back to life a willing creature with an INT score of 3 or higher, for a limited duration to perform or attempt a specific task left uncompleted at death (see below). The head and torso must be in one piece for the spell to work. The spell works only if the creature has been dead for no longer than one minute per caster level and had undergone no transformation after death (such as rising as Fell or undead spawn). The spell re-anchors the departing soul in the creature’s body until the task it done or the duration runs out. The body becomes stable, but alive at its current hp total, with a minimum score of 1 per damaged ability (if any), but cures no other condition or damage. The creature loses one level or HD or (if first level or 1HD) 2 points of CON. If dead from loss of hp, the creature’s wounds must be cured to bring it up to at least -9hp within 24 hours, or the soul slips away and cannot thereafter be held by either Cup of Life or Breath of Life. The task must be one the creature had assumed before its death, and must be such as can reasonably be completed within the duration of the spell, although not necessarily by the resurrected creature alone or even directly by it. The soul must be willing to return and be bound to the task, or the spell fails. A creature revived by Cup of Life is under a Geas to perform its agreed task. At dawn of the third day after completing the task, or at dawn of the day after the duration runs out, whichever the earlier, the released soul slips away and the creature dies. Material component: For a Jungle Elf caster, a seed of the Red Narn tree, to be placed in the subject’s mouth. Breath of Life Conjuration, Greater Level: Chn7 Components: V, S, M, XP Casting Time: 1 round Range: Touch Target: Dead creature touched Duration: Instantaneous Saving Throw: None (willing creature only) SR: No This spell calls back to life a willing creature. The head and torso must be in one piece for the spell to work. The spell works only if the creature has been dead for no longer than one minute per caster level and had undergone no transformation after death (such as rising as Fell or undead spawn). The spell re-anchors the departing soul in the creature’s body. Material component: For a Jungle Elf caster, a seed of the White Narn tree, to be placed in the subject’s mouth. XP cost: 100XP.
