Hello everyone, I'm new to the world of non homebrew dnd, and have never actually created my own character before, so I have no idea how to do anything really. I'm looking for someone to help me learn the basics so I can enjoy playing without feeling like a total newb. Please help?

This Matt Colville video (despite him saying it's really for DMs) is quite a helpful overview to creating a character:

You didn't mention if you've read through the basic rules or not, so just in case, you can get them for free here:

http://dnd.wizards.com/articles/features/basicrules

Read through the basic rules and it will walk you through creating a character. If you like what you see there and want more detail or more character options, you can buy the full Player's Handbook which will give you more choices in character creation.

Welcome!

You have some great starting info to check out in the above posts.

For more specifics, ask whatever you need whenever you need it. This place is groovy like that!
