Cool. I will be interested to see what it does differently than other games.
In a nutshell, resolution is made by making a pool of d6s for each side. The side with the highest total result wins and inflicts differential damage to the losing side. Soloists like it because resolution is fast (but also unforgiving).

Lair of the Leopard Empress by Mindjammer Press is the best version of the pre-rebellion system. I keep wanting to order it, but I always put it off. Now, with this new version, I'm not sure what to do.

I absolutely love the loose, abstract way they handle combat.

Huh. That's definitely modern art, which is hard to mentally reconcile with the classic nature of the game for me. That said, I've played or owned zero T&T games, so my opinion is irrelevant here.

I ordered LotLE, book and pdf combo on dtrpg. Printed locally in Canada is a great incentive.

Are you describing the new one or the existing?

Because the existing (pre-Rebellion) is a two mechanic game:
Combat: dice based upon weapons, adds to them by attribute, only open-ending if berserk.
Non combat: 2d6, doubles open end recursively, add attribute, compare to TN.
