New Weapon Enhancements

I created these weapon enhancements, I thought I'd post them here if anyone would like to use them. I originally posted them on Sean K Reynold's boards, and he helped me work out the pricing. We felt that the gold piece cost worked out better than adding these enhancements as a "+". Enjoy!

Lesser Any Weapon: This enhancement allows the wielder to, as a Standard action, transmute the weapon to any other melee or ranged weapon type. The size of the transmuted weapon cannot be larger than one size category bigger than the base weapon, or smaller than Diminutive sized. If the base weapon is changed into a ranged weapon, no ammunition is supplied. If the user is not proficient with the new weapon type, he suffers the standard non-proficient penalty of -4 to attack rolls. Any other enhancements on the weapon function within their normal parameters. Example: A +1 keen holy dagger is enhanced with this ability. The wielder is attacked by skeletons and decides that a heavy mace would be a much better weapon. He commands the dagger to change into a heavy mace, now the weapon is a +1 holy heavy mace, since it is now a bludgeoning weapon the keen ability is suppressed while it is in heavy mace form.
Caster Level: 15th; Prerequisites: Craft Arms & Armor, polymorph any object; Market Price: 10,000 gp.

Greater Any Weapon: This enhancement is just like Lesser Any Weapon except that the user is granted proficiency with any weapon type that is chosen, including Exotic weapons. Caster Level: 15th; Prerequisites: Craft Arms & Armor, polymorph any object, wieldskill; Market Price: 12,000 gp.

***DISCLAIMER*** Sean said he'd seen something similar to these in a d20 book called "Arms & Armor", but that my version was quite different. So, I just wanted to point out that in case anyone drew a correlation between the two, I've never even seen that book!

[EDIT]: Added "as a Standard action".

The ones in Arms and Armor allow a weapon to change into 3 other specific weapons for the lesser power (vaules at +1) and the greater ability allows it to change into any weapon (valued at +3). I figureed it be best to let people without that book know what the powers Sean was talking about do.

The limitation is not much of one. One can only change the weapon into other weapons of one size larger or smaller. So, why wouldn't anyone just place it on a medium or large weapon and then they would never have to worry about the limitation. On a side note this type of weapon is perfect for the Exotic Weapon Master.

Overall, I think the prices are too low. I'd increase the gp value a lot more because of the sheer versatility of these weapons. Especiall the Greater Any Weapon. Proficiency in the weapon is huge, especially for a Wizard who has so few weapons known.

Sean broke it down his pricing guideline pretty well on this thread: http://pub17.ezboard.com/fseankreynoldsboardsfrm2.showMessage?topicID=91.topic

I originally had the abilities priced in the +1 and +3 range, but Sean did a real good job of pointing out that these abilities are basically for "coolness" factor, not like a damage dealing ability, they shouldn't cost an incredible amount.

I think Sean's missing the usefulness of these weapons. Getting charged by a Knight? You have a weapon that can be set aganist the charge. Need a weapon that helps disarm, or trip, or have reach? Well, you have it right here. Need a small weapon because you just got grappled? Easily done.

Is it a Standard Action to switch the weapon's form? If so, a better ability might allow that as a free action.

So, it can be just about damage dice. However, I think a creative player will make this a very powerful weapon. There are just so many abilities that different weapons have. Potentially, they are all in this one.

It's just as easy to carry about three different weapons, the only advantage here is you don't have to. A limiting factor is that you'll only have one weapon's worth of any other enhancments you choose to add. If you carry three weapons they could all have differing enhancements allowing you to do more against certain opponents. Overall though, I think that at 10,000 and 12,000 gp, they are exactly cheap enhancements, not everyone will be able to afford them.

Yes, it's a Standard action, I thought I had stipulated that, I'll have to make that clear.

It's easier to carry one weapon then three. Also, people ussually havea powerful main weapon, and a few weaker secondary weapons. This enchantment makes the primary weapon that much more useful. Thus is expensive at lower levels, but at the higher levels I think it would be a worthwhile addition to any weapon.
