He is mentally retarded, with the mind of a human 5 year old. It came as some shock when they discovered he'd been touched by the gods. He doesn't have the mental capacity to choose a specific god, but he was raised as a good boy and knows right from wrong.Ben's parents were aboard the ship he was on, but died when the boat went down. Now he's alone in a strange land, and while he's as scared as any 5 year old would be in the situation, he's also curious, and tries to be a BIG BOY as much as he can. But he misses his mommy and daddy.</blockquote>
