News and rants at Mystic Eye

Mystic Eye

First Post
Hey guys,

Just got back from a great GAMA show. We had fun and I am trying to quicky write something on it.

I added a rants page today. The first rant you may find interesting as it deals with some recent occurances around a review of our oldest product, The Pit of Loch-Durnan.

It upsets me greatly that our very first book, nearly a year old now, has been used as an attack method on the EN World reviews and the Ennies.
Well, you can simply pop on over and read the rant if you wish.

Oh, by the way, I have put up a preview of the print version cover art for Wild Spellcraft, enjoy it!!!!

Hey Doug,

Most of us blew off the guy. I liked your rant, but it should have been called the rambling rant

Most of the folks at RPG.net talk big but are fans like everyone else. I used to game with one of the most infamous, verbally-abusive guys over there, funny thing was he was polite to me in person. Goes back to the "talking the talk". I have no doubt that very few, make that none, of the guys and gals would talk to me in person like they talk on the forum. The internet makes little people brave, that includes reveiwers.

Anyway, thanks for the rant.

What irks me, is that he works (or has worked) for another d20 company. (And ironically, 2 of his adventures were ranked the worst in the d20 Annual Magazine from Dragon).

While I'm not saying d20 authors shouldn't review other d20 products, they should at least try to show some professionalism.

Anyway, with regards to the rant, I think anyone who gets a free copy of a product to review is probably considered a professional reviewer. Because they are getting some sort of compensation for reviewing a product, even if it's just the product itself.

Free copies making someone count as a professional reviewer sounds right to me. Moreover, I take it a site or company only forwards free copies to select reviewers so there's at least some editorial review process in place there.

How dare you call me a professional! I'll speak to my lawyers about this. ;-)

Just kidding of course.

I've been very pleased with the progress Mystic Eye has made. As you noted, I didn't like the whole of the product, but saw some potential there. That potential is coming through in a number of ways, not just in the Hunt campaign, but in other settings and sourcebooks as well.

Keep up the work and let the fans determine what's good or not eh? ;-)

Cool! I'm a professional reviewer!

I just wanted to say the cover art for wild spellcrafts print version looks great! I already have the PDF and printed it out, but i may just buy the print version anyway!

MEG question

Dear Doug
I am in the "like all your products" camp. Therefore a quick question that is not too off the subject:

When is BLIGHT MAGIC due to be released?

Your company does not have a release schedule page. Is this for a deliberate reason? Would be nice to have even an approximate one....I understand schedules can change.

Anyway keep up the good work
Cheers

Hi John,

Blight Magic is cooking along and will be out in May! In regards to the release scedule we have the release month on the specific product page. Maybe that is a bit confusing as you are not the first to ask.

These titles are all in the editing or final process as well:

The Witch of Loch-Durnan
Librum Equitis volume 1
Foul Locales: Urban Blight

Thanks for being in our camp and I will do something about a release dates section.

As far as release dates go, I think that its better for companies to give a quarter than an actuall month unless they actually have the product in hand. I've seen too many companies, d20 and otherwise, blow dates for many reasons, some of them very good and out of their control. However, the fan base is unquestionably unreasonable in their assumptions about how quick turnaround should be, so the less specific release dates are, the better off the company is.
