News page vs. boards membership

Slightly confused, here. I'm logged in on the boards, all kosher. As I understand it, I need to register again to make comments on the news page, right? But when I try to do so, I get told that my email address (joecrow@speakeasy.net) is already in use. I've no memory of signing up previously, and nothing in my email archives saying so. What's up with that? Am I a fool? Are the gods of EN World frowning upon me?

If there is a "I forgot my password" type link on the newspage, use that and see if it sends you a username and password -- if it does then use the given info
