news ticker feedback

FYI - the news ticker is cool when I view it from home, but at work I have to retype in my password every time I load the page due to firewalls and stuff. That's a bit of a pain.

I'm sure it's perfectly simple and that I'm being a real dunce!

You have a "breaking news" ticker/marqee/text-scrolling-dealie-wacker on the top of the forum page.

I have to load the applet. The applet is a program. There's a downloading process associated with that and it counts as a new session. Every external session I open has to be authenticated with a username and password.

Again, not a big deal. But some people's firewalls can be nastier than the one my company uses.

You could do what a few people do. Create a second account, one for work and one for home. Have your work one set not to see the ticker and you won't have that problem.

the ticker is useless to me because I only have internet access at work and the firewall prevents the java from loading at all.

The ticker crashes mozilla 1.1 with Sun's java VM loaded.

and turning the ticker off currently means that you don't get to see "visited" links in a different colour

BTW, I turned the ticker off. I don't see it as necessary on the messsageboard of the news site.
