Next Poly is a d20 Modern Mini-game

Just got the heads up that the next mini-game, Iron Lords of Jupiter is d20 Modern.

Funny how WotC's designers keep saying d20 Modern is for the modern day only and people keep pushing the evelope -- and the staff of Polyhedron are the vanguard of the movement with d20 Mecha and the like.

All those who think d20 Future will be a big seller for d20M raise their hands.

Just to add some perspective on this, I proposed ILJ to Erik sometime around August of 2002 -- long before anyone had ever heard of D20 Future. I've always felt that the genre -- Plantary Romance -- was greatly underserved in gaming, given how 'gameable' it is. I honestly don't remember at this point if I suggested using D20M for it, or if he did.

Helluva good job, by the way, Lizard. I gave the article a once-over today and it looks very spiffy.

And frankly, I'm more excited about d20 Future than any release over the next year (projects I worked on excluded).

Thanks! It seems everyone's seeing it but me... such is the life of a freelancer.

They did?

Well, D20 Future is just going to be an add-on for Modern. It seems to me that Iron Lords of Jupiter is an add-on as well.

If they did say that, the statement does not seem inconsistent.

Sounds like you'd rather they cut this Iron Lord mini-game out of the issue in favor of something more closer to modern time. :p

For clarification, I've never seen anyone use the phrases "pushing the envelope" "vanguard of the movement" in a negative connotations. :) I am giving a compliments.

Then you missed out on some ... interesting conversations on the WotC boards before d20M came out. People asked for cybernetics, nanotech and bigger and (in their view) better psionics. Ryan's constant reply was "That's science fiction, not modern day."

In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the genesis of d20 Future came from those requests, especially if the supplement comes out before Agents of Psi and Genetech, two modern day SF settings that were planned at the beginning of the d20 M project.

As an aside, while my pocket book doesn't like the idea of d20 Future supplement (I'd rather spend $35 on one d20 Future book than $60 on d20M and then a supplement) I think it was the right business decision. It's easier to just add more supplements if a d20 Future supplement takes off than try to risk the commitment to supporting a whole new game line.

Trust me, if I like what I see in d20 Future, I'll be getting into d20M like gangbusters. :)
