Night Watch on DVD...

It's finally out on DVD in the US and so I finally got to see it after hearing about it for so long (I guess since 2004).

It was pretty good, but it turned out to be a lot more Hollywood-ish than I expected. For one, they used too much CGI, which often got in the way of what was going on. For another, the ending was pretty obvious. And most annoyingly, all the product placement. Especially those annoying video game scenes.

I hope it doesn't take as long for the sequel to show up in the US.

And some things don't make sense to me.

How did Anton (or whatever the the main character's name is) "kill" the vampire? He did no such thing, as far as I could tell, it was the person turning on the light on the truck that was the direct cause, but really, the vampire itself was to blame.

Secondly, was that woman who he wanted back his wife or just girlfriend? I thought it said wife early on, but later on it was just girlfriend when he was talking to the owl lady. And realistically, wouldn't she sue him for child support?

I saw it while flying to Florida a few weeks ago and I speak russian, what dont you understand maybe I can shed some light?

Edit: woops didnt see your hidden text.
Uh, Anton reflected the light from the truck with the Mirror he was holding directly unto the vampire which started a direct chain reaction killing him. You'll note the "Light Watch" never seriously persecuted him for it.

As for his X...if you pay attention that scene is more human then you might think. They were never married, they were engaged. The girl cheated on him with someone else. The Grandmother Witch (a very common figure in russian myth and fairytails) knew the truth. Anton did not. Its possible his X thought the baby was not Antons as well (hence why she was leaving him, she was having a child with someone else). Anyway, when Anton tells his story to his new partner, he tells it out of recollection. Fiance and Girlfriend are still interchangeble before an actual marriage occurs, so he just said girlfriend because it was less painfull to think of her that way.

Uh..does that shed any light on it for you?
