As one travels different languages are used as "common" in different places, but no one language is universal everywhere. The key is balancing your campaign. By using more regional common tongues you will avoid slowing play most of the time, but travel definetly becomes more exotic when translators are needed. One thing to consider though are the languages of the Gods and Outsiders. Do they have language difficulties? Speak all languages? If you're looking for a logical basis for a common language here could be one, indeed in one campaign I played in Infernal was the universal language of trade because it was so well adapted to contracts.</blockquote>
