No More D&D for awhile... [slightly OT]

Ulrick

First Post
Well, I had to make a decision... my future, or D&D.

I chose my future with a company known as Primerica, a subsidiary of Citigroup.

I can hear screams of WHAT???!!!

I help people become debt free and financially independent.

And I tell you what, here in the United States of America there is a need for the financial literacy we teach. Average credit card debt is $8,000. Personal Backruptcies are at an all time high. Job security is an illusion.

Maybe I sold out for the money. The potential is there for making 100k+ a year at what I do. (PM me if you live in Iowa and want to know more about this).

Or maybe I sold out because my long term goal is to create a charity for the terminally ill so that their loved ones won't have to pay a ton in medical bills. And this is just a stepping stone in that direction.

D&D has been great. It has been fun, exciting, and rewarding. But I need to create my own adventures for the real world--I want to see the pyramids. I need to be a hero for others--there have been cases where clients have sat at kitchen tables while clients and their families have prayed for thanks that he or she had come into their lives.

It was a tough decision, but its only for the short term (a year or so). And I guess that takes care of if I should buy 3.5 or not. ;)

Anyway, goodbye for awhile and good gaming!

Just think of it as taking a Hiatus. In a year or so, you'll come back to it with a vengeance and love it all the more. In the meantime, go for your dreams! It's the most noble thing a man can achieve, to see his vision made a reality and to help others along the way.

Salud!

From the sound of it, it sounds like it's godd-bye to more than D&D, but if you ever get disheartened and need a pep talk, you know where to find us!

Good Luck, Ulrick!

To me, it sounds like you've got your priorities right. Real life should always win out over a game. However, if in the future you ever find yourself where you may have some free time on your hands, remember the gaming table will always be there. Take care.

Primerica? Eck.

Good luck...but consider carefully.

Does the phrase "Ponzi Scheme" mean anything to you? That is how Primerica works. Talk a close look at the payment schedule and how you work up the ladder. You actually get rewarded MORE for recruiting in people below you than you actually do for selling anything.

That $100K is predicated on you filling a roster of people below you and then living off the commission of their sales. It is very much like Amway.

Also look at the commission schedule closely. The vast majority of commissions are generated by consolidating people's debt into a single payment, backed by the client's equity in his or her house. You are basically taking people's houses as collateral, and foreclosing if they can't make the new payment.

Again, good luck, but go into it with open eyes as far as what you are getting yourself into. They like to take young, idealistic people and live off their commissions.

Be wary

Yes, be wary of Primerica. Its not an ILLEGAL Ponzi scheme, but the business is structured on an Amway type model.

I had a buddy who was with them for a while. They sold him alot of motivational seminars, and had him hit up all his friends and relatives for business.

They made a big deal about how they provided life insurance, and did a bit of a bait-and switch by telling you first about "whole life" insurance, and then showing you how great their "term insurance" was in comparison.

But their term wasn't very competitive compared to term insurance from alot of places. My buddy's Upstream was rather put out by our bringing out my employer recomended insurance plan which was clearly superior.

My dad's involved in this, and he doesn't see it like it is. Of course, he hasn't made jack squat out of it because he doesn't have time to run around selling 'term life' insurance.

They're not the only ones around either. If you're looking for a job, monster.com is FULL of these cheeseball companies promising you all kinds of stuff but not telling you that

1) you have to find your own leads (which means hassling every one of your family and friends with this stuff)
or
2) pay for leads (which is a giant crock)
and
3) You have to pay to use their software to help you out, and have to pay for your own promotional stuff (any advertising, business cards, etc)
and
4) You are not part of their 'business.' You are an independant broker of their insurance. You don't work for them, you work for yourself. As in, you don't get paid NOTHING, and then you have to wait for comission checks to finally roll around.

Anywho, that's my rant. And yes, I DO have primerica life insurance...but my dad paid it for me because all the crap they fed him makes him believe that there's this great chance I'm going to die before I'm 63 (and spend 10,000 in their insurance). Sure, if I'm dead in 10 years my kid gets loads of money...but what are the chances? Sounds like you are playing the lottery...but betting with your own death.

YUCK

:D

You made the only decision that makes any sense at all.

EVERYTHING IRL comes before gaming. and I mean EVERYTHING

Its just a fun game but only a fool puts gaming ahead of real life

And yes I have made that mistake-- Bad Idea
