Gate Worlds Stargate meets fantasy age of exploration. Okay, I'll do more. Remnants of the age of myth, it was thought the gates could only open to other nearby gates. With greater understanding and power it became clear that the gates could connect further. Not just across continents and seas, but across the void itself. Now the Gate Worlds are beginning to connect. Peoples separated by unimaginable distances now find strangers visiting from other worlds. Cultures and knowledge are shared. Visions of the future collide. And dangers unknown begin to stir. Ancestries (borrowing heavily from my favorite homebrew setting): Kothan - Qunari meets Rams Verdan - Wood people Riven - Spirits attached to bone constructs Isiks - Magically branded human refugees Drakken - Lizard people Witch - lineage of soul wielders
Kothans - think Qunari from Dragon Age with eyes and horns similar to a bighorn sheep. Prey that have become quite formidable over time. Verdan - tree folk that have become bipedal to better interact with new travelers coming to their forests. Riven - spirits of the dead that attach themselves to the bones of their ancestors. If you've played Expedition 33, the Riven die and are reborn in a way similar to gestrals. Isiks - magically infused humans with colorful bands, almost like tattoos, on some of their bodies. They are refugees from a dead world. Drakken - komodo dragon looking people that are as comfortable on two legs as they sre on four. Witch - not really it's own ancestry. More like lineages found in Van Richten's Guide to Everything. Witches learn to wield their own souls outside of their bodies. They keep the physical aspects of their ancestry, but trade in the other parts for unique soul powers. Why call them witches? Because that was the working title and I haven't found a good replacement.
Classes: Ranger with some rogue stuff in place of magic Barbarian Paladin Warlock Druid Sorcerer
